The English scientist, Robert Hooke, was probably the first scientist to make sound visible, using a glass plate covered with flour that he 'played' with a violin bow. The vibrations in plate caused the flour to move away from some areas (known as antinodes) and gather in other areas, known as nodes. He amazed audiences with his simple experiment.
